{"id":178,"date":"2019-01-05T12:10:32","date_gmt":"2019-01-05T02:10:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/edmonton-adventist.org.au\/wpcontent\/?p=178"},"modified":"2019-09-10T06:07:38","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T20:07:38","slug":"witness-as-an-atheist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/edmonton-adventist.org.au\/wpcontent\/?p=178","title":{"rendered":"Witness as an atheist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is from Sharing Your Faith by Don Mackintosh.<\/p>\n<p>In the end witnessing is all about love! \u201cWe love Him because He first loved is\u201d (1 John 4:19).\u00a0 And we witness to others because of what God has done for us.\u00a0 He promises, \u201cI have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee\u201d (Jeremiah 31:3 KJV)<\/p>\n<p>God\u2019s love is amazing because it reaches us right where we are, while we\u2019re still sinners (Romans 5:8).\u00a0 This was certainly true of me, as I experienced a profound witness while still an unconverted atheist.\u00a0 While working as a nurse, I met a woman who did not have long to live and was questioning her worldview.\u00a0 \u201cAre you a Christian?\u201d She asked.\u00a0 \u201cWhat happens when people ide?\u00a0 How does one accept Christ?\u00a0 How do you pray?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I resisted her questions, saying, \u201cI\u2019m an atheist like you.\u00a0 I\u2019m trying to walk away from the very things you\u2019re seeking to accept!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She responded kindly, \u201cWhat would your father say about the questions I asked?\u201d\u00a0 Somehow she had figured out that my father was a minister.\u00a0 Though I did not enjoy it one bit, I began to share what my father would say in answer to her questions, and, as I spoke, a sense of peace came over her face.\u00a0 The dramatic change amazed me.<\/p>\n<p>Asking for a Bible, she began to read God\u2019s Word and started coming to faith.\u00a0 I still remember her last day, her last breath actually, for I was there.\u00a0 As she lay dying, she looked me straight in the eye and asked a question that would haunt me-and lead to my conversion.\u00a0 She asked, \u201cWould you pray for me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though I didn\u2019t pray at that time in my life, I did it for her.\u00a0 Can you imagine?\u00a0 One atheist asking another to pray for her?\u00a0 She came to faith, and later, so did I!\u00a0 I can\u2019t wait to meet her at the Resurrection to share the impact her question had on my life.<\/p>\n<p>If God could use me\u2014a rebellious atheist\u2014to witness, He can certainly use you.\u00a0 Claim the promise of divine guidance in Isaiah 50:4, 5.\u00a0 Use Christ\u2019s method of listening and questioning found in Luke 24.\u00a0 Share the timeless doctrines of love summarized in the first chapter of Revelation.\u00a0 And finally, go forward, trusting the promise of 1 Timothy 4:16: \u201cTake heed to yourself and to the doctrine.\u00a0 Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is from Sharing Your Faith by Don Mackintosh.
