{"id":218,"date":"2019-07-13T12:46:39","date_gmt":"2019-07-13T02:46:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/edmonton-adventist.org.au\/wpcontent\/?p=218"},"modified":"2019-09-10T09:28:29","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T23:28:29","slug":"prayer-stops-the-weather","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/edmonton-adventist.org.au\/wpcontent\/?p=218","title":{"rendered":"Prayer Stops the Weather"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>This is from the book Youth Prays, God Answers by Glenn Coon.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>As Nina and Ken kneeled to bring a serious problem before the Lord Ken said, \u201cThis will be a prayer of commitment of course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo,\u201d Nina answered with determination, \u201cthis will be a prayer of reception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, Honey,\u201d Ken argued,, \u201cWe can\u2019t tell God what to do.\u00a0 I know we need the money we would have gotten for this job, but one doesn\u2019t paint in a heave rain storm.\u00a0 You know that!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Nina argued that God could and would hold back the storm if they would pray, asking, believing and claiming Matthew 21:22 \u2018All things, whatsoever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.\u2019\u00a0 Malachi 3:8-10 on tithing and Mark 11:24 \u2018What things so ever you desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>What Ken didn\u2019t know was that a few months previous when they had suffered a terrible disappointment in an unsuccessful business adventure in the East Nina had written the cheque for tithe but hadn\u2019t mailed it because their bank account was so depleted.\u00a0 Since then things had gone from bad to worse.\u00a0 Now they were two months behind in rent, one month behind in other bills and had received notice from the college that Ken could not complete the semester unless he paid what was owed as well as an advance on the next semester\u2019s fees.\u00a0 Now Nina had promised God that the first thing she would do with the payment for this painting job in Santa Monica was pay all of the tithe owning.\u00a0 And so she prayed, asking God to fulfil his promises, believing that he would, and thanking Him for the promising that they were claiming or receiving good painting weather.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t until half way through the painting job when the lady for whom they were working remarked, someone at USC (University of Southern California) must have prayed for good weather for today\u2019s graduation,\u201d that Ken suddenly realised he knew who that someone was and they had truly received the answer to the prayer of reception.<\/p>\n<p>The Los Angeles Times of January 28 1966 read\u00a0\u00a0 NO RAIN\u2014FORCASTING GOOP BLAMED ON COMPUTERS.\u00a0 \u201cThat the predicted heavy rain that never arrived Thursday in Los Angeles was based in good measure on forecasts from a computer near Washing DC and the computer goofed!\u00a0 But Weather Bureau forecaster here won\u2019t let the mechanical brain take all the blame.\u00a0 \u2018We goofed too!\u2019 John Frazee admitted. \u2018But we talked it over and decided if we had to do it all over again, we would have forecast the very same heavy rains.\u2014After all it was pouring on Catalina Island, where almost ana inch of rain fell Wednesday night and early Thursday before the storm swerved south.\u00a0 Frazee said it would be sheer guess at this point as to what caused the weather system to change\u2026<\/p>\n<p>That evening other types of prayers ascended to the God of heaven, prayers of praise and thanks giving.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is from the book Youth Prays, God Answers by Glenn Coon.
